Learn while you sleep

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t894eGoymio
We all remember those articles years ago that said we could learn a language in our sleep. Did you try it? Playing foreign language courses while you slumbered. I didn't but I remember being very taken by the idea that I use this supposed "dead time" (and we know since how important it actually is for learning and memory, so I mean that facetiously) for learning new things. It sounded great but how true? Now research has shown that "memories can be reactivated during sleep and storage of them can be strengthened in the process." YES! It looks like stimulation during sleep can solidify the stuff that you've already learnt. "The study opens the door for future studies of sleep-based memory processing for many different types of motor skills, habits and behavioral dispositions". Well, of course it does! It augments your learning "system" - and what's that? The environment that you create to acquire new knowledge and skills. And remember, and environment is something that you're surrounded with, something that reminds you regularly of what you're at. And a system focuses you towards your goals.

I just can't wait to hear more about the applications of this research. More importantly, where are we when we sleep?
